Rationale:
As Paterson 's downtown, historic, and artists' community are beginning to revita liz e and grow, it is apparent that the Paterson Museum could and should play a major role in the cultural revival of Paterson, becoming the focus of cultural activity for the surrounding North Jersey region. As it is now constituted, the Museum attracts 17,000 visitors from Northern New Jersey , twenty states, and several foreign countries annually. By expanding facilities, upgrading current historical and technological exhibits, and promoting and exhibiting the works of the emerging arts community, the Museum will become a dominant force in the cultural life of the region, a major tourist attraction, and a catalyst for further revitalization of the City.

Statement of Purpose:
To preserve the cultural, industrial, technological, and geological history of Paterson. To exhibit and interpret Paterson 's unique scientific, historic, and cultural legacy. To educate both young and old alike about our heritage, and to instill an appreciation of Paterson 's place in our nation's history.
